Tutorial For Making Galaxy Ribbon

In one of my pursuits of card making inspiration, I came by an amazing card by Kristin Werner on YouTube. She created a galaxy look with distress paints for her card. I thought this would look amazing in ribbon form so I created an easy tutorial to get the look.

The first step is picking out the right kind of ribbon. We will be using acrylic paint so will need a sturdy ribbon that will hold the colors. I chose to use ribbon from the canvas and burlap/cotton blend lines. Some of the other things you will need is acrylic paint, a paint brush and a bowl of water.

To get started you want to soak your ribbon. Just drop a piece of ribbon into the bowl of clean water. Squish it in your hands to get it soaked. Next lay your ribbon on something that can get messy, because it will get messy. You want to start painting with your colors first. You can use any color you wish but I chose blue and teal with a gold metallic. Make sure your brush has a lot of water in its bristles. You want the consistency of the paint to be watery. Then just dab the color on to the ribbon randomly.

Now to add the black. You want to add the black in the same way as you did the colors. To get more depth in the black, add darker black spots over the places you already added the color to. I then topped it off with a little bit of metallic silver paint.

As an extra step I crumpled the ribbon into a ball to blend the colors in a little more.

The last step is to add the white. I let the paint dry and then flicked white mist on top to add the stars look. Let that dry and then you’re done. You now have a very cool looking galaxy ribbon.

You can now use this awesome ribbon for many things.

Here I tied it around a simply wrapped gift to give it a cool look.

You can also add them to your cards. I used them in the back of some star die-cuts in the first pic. Here I just cut a piece into a banner and it looks so magical on this card.
