Vintage Inspired Valentines Sachets

Welcome To Day 3 of May Arts / Glue Arts Blog Week

Vintage Inspired Valentines Sachets

I Love celebrating Valentine’s Day.  Not only it is a time for me to let my husband know how special he is, but I also LOVE making gifts for special friends in my life.  This year, I decided to make lavender filled Vintage Inspired Valentines Sachets.

Follow along as I show you how to make these lovely sachets.

You’ll need the following supplies:

  • Assorted Fabric Pieces—Because I was making sachets with a vintage feel, I used velvet, silk and chenille to create my sachets
  • Sewing Machine
  • Embellishments—buttons, metal charms, miniature wood heart

Your sachets can be made in a variety of shapes, but to celebrate the season of love, I made several sachets in a heart shape and then, several others in a rectangular shape.

Step 1:  First, create heart templates from heavy cardstock.  My heart template measured 4” w x 4 ¼” tall.  My rectangle shape measured 3 ¼” w x 4 ½” tall.

Step 2:  Cut your fabric shapes.

Step 3:  With your fabric cut, determine the ribbon and embellishment layout that will appear on the top of your sachets.

With your layout determined, adhere the ribbon to your fabric (right side of fabric).  Glue Arts Ribbon Adhesive works great to adhere ribbon to fabric.

Step 4:  With your ribbons secured, your next step is to sew your shapes together.  With right sides together, sew around the edge of each shape, leaving a 1” opening so that the shape can be turned right side out and filled with lavender.

Step 5:  Once your sachets are filled, sew up the opening and add additional embellishments.  Since my sachets were vintage inspired, I chose vintage looking add-ons such as this lovely key and flower charm and this antique pearl button.

Here are more creative tips to keep in mind when creating your sachets:

  • Mix several different ribbons together on one sachets
  • Mix and match the fabrics you use for your sachets—on several of my sachets, I used a different fabrics for the front and back
  • If you need a little inspiration, check out the awesome collection of May Arts Valentine ribbons.  I know you’ll find lots of options to create your sachets.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so go and make a few Vintage Valentines Sachets of your own.

With Love,

Shelly
