Ribbon Dress Cards

Ribbon Dress Cards

Erin here, I’ve got a little Project Runway inspiration for you.   I decided to play fashion designer with ribbon.  I’ve got 4 cards that showcase the variety of May Arts ribbon with a fun dress die.

Ribbon Dress Cards

For the first card I die cut out the dress and used the negative space with the new denim ribbon.  To add a little variety to the dress pattern I alternated sides of the ribbon with every row and added a small piece of the sheer ruffle at the top.

Next up I took a piece of Core’dinations blue card stock and embossed front of the card and then used sandpaper to bring out the embossing.

I stamped the Hero Arts sentiment to the bottom and matted the white card stock with another square of Core’dinations card stock and adhered all the pieces together.

For my second card I wanted to play with the new metallic velvet ribbon, loved the idea of creating a real show-stopper party dress.  I die cut the woman out of black card stock for a striking silhouette and did the dress out of vellum.  I cut small one-inch stripes of the ribbon and wrapped it around the bottom of the dress.  I thought at first I was going to use the vellum as an overlay, but the length was wrong, so I cut the vellum to be the top part of the dress showcasing more ribbon.  I made a CAS card by stamping the Lawn Fawn chevron on the bottom and die cut the panel and added a black base.

And because the dress had so much attitude I added a sentiment “Nothing is Impossible, the Word itself says “I’m Possible!” which was designed by Royal Ribbonista Karen Baker.

Ribbon Dress Cards

Ribbon dresses…. Who could resist a wedding dress made out of the sheer tinsel ribbon and silk?

And for my final card I made what I thought looked like a bridesmaid dress, a combo of vellum, pink sheer ruffle ribbon and a ribbon tab out of pink velvet.   I hope these ribbon dresses have inspired you to have a “Make it Work” moment in your craft room.

I've found your ribbons by seeing paper crafters coordinate with Graphic 45 papers, black and whites seem to be popular color choices. So beautiful! I use ribbons on some of my cards, too. So many color choices! thanks for the inspiring projects! Would be nice to have my name chosen for this opportuntiy to choose 2 rolls!

    I love this idea!

I created something similar to cover part of a stamped image in ribbon.

I laid the ribbon on a piece of packing tape to make a solid surface.  I then stamped the image on clear acrylic (vellum would also work).  I used the clear image as a pattern to cut out the ribbon then ran it through my Xyron.  This created a sticker that I adhered to the original stamped image.  I was very happy with the results.

I am excited to try your technique with some of my Cuttlebug dies.  Thanks so much for sharing.

What a great idea to use the ribbon on the negative of the dress. It makes is more feminine. Thanks for sharing!

How clever. Now I want to make one. What do you use to glue the ribbon down?

I used a combo of double sided tape and scotch tape… the trick with these dresses and you never see the seams!
