Love Birds Banner / Album

Welcome to Day 5 of May Arts / Glue Arts Blog Week!

Love Birds Banner / Album

Do you know a pair of love birds who are ready to tie the knot or who are celebrating a special occasion? If so this Love Birds Banner/Album is just the project for you! A glittery banner is the perfect accent for a bridal shower, wedding reception, anniversary party or any occasion celebrating love. The beauty of a banner like this is that it can double as a mini album. Simply remove the silk ribbon and add silver binding rings or use lengths of ribbon to hold the album together. Add photos, embellishments, and journaling, and you have a cherished keepsake for a special couple!

Creating a project like this requires a bit of time and effort so you definitely want it to be sturdy and able to withstand lots of handling. Choosing the correct adhesives is vital to the success of this or any project. Fortunately, Glue Arts provides lots of options that are affordable, easy to use, and best of all they really work!

Here’s what you need to create your own banner/album:

Materials:

  • 6 Kraft Banner Pieces {7 ½” x 9”}
  • Maya Road Birdcage Chipboard Book
  • Maya Road Noah Mini Chipboard Alphabet {birds}
  • 2” Chipboard Letters {Heidi Swapp}
  • Patterned Paper:

    • TPC Studio:  Ancestral Bird Brocade; Ancestral Bird Stripe {Back}
  • Vintage Glass Glitter: Silver & Aqua
  • White tacky glue or glitter glue
  • 2 Vintage Buttons

Instructions:

Cover both sides of the chipboard banner pieces with patterned paper using Glue Arts Pro Glider Perma Squares. Punch holes on each side of the pieces at the top for the ribbon.

Layer the 3” and 2 ¾” circles as shown. Place Glue Arts Extreme Adhesive Squares around the edges of the back of 4 sets of the layered circles and create a ruffle using May Arts Ivory Satin/Pleats ribbon. {Reserve one set of circles without ribbon for the last banner piece.} The ribbon is easier to mold if you snip the bottom half only of every couple of folds. The ribbon will be a bit puckered, so tape over it with some scotch tape to secure it. Use Extreme Adhesive Squares to glue a glittered letter to the center of each set of circles. Attach one circle to each banner piece using foam adhesive.

To create the first banner piece start by covering the die cut bird cage from the Maya Road chipboard book with silver glitter on both sides. Use Glue Arts Ribbon Adhesive to secure a piece of Ivory Satin/Pleats to the bottom of the birdcage on the back.  Attach the birdcage to the banner piece using foam adhesive. Embellish with the flower of your choice. I created the flower shown by layering 2 each of die cut flowers in 3 sizes. I alternated the patterns to add interest, stapled in the middle and attach a sparkly vintage button using a foam adhesive square. Quick Tip: roll each petal around a pencil to add dimension.

To add a bit of eclectic charm and a pop of color, I used the back side of the banner as the base for the last piece. Cover the back page of the Maya Road chipboard book on both sides with silver glitter. Do the same for the bird wings. Use aqua glitter for the bird bodies and for the mini “birds” chipboard letters. Attach the reserved set of layered circles to the center of the banner piece. Lay a strip of ribbon adhesive across the middle of the circles all the way to the edges of the banner and sprinkle with silver glitter.  This creates a perch for your love birds. Use Extreme Adhesive Squares to glue the wings to the birds and to attach the birds to the banner piece. Add a piece of Ivory Satin Pleats to the back of the birdcage and attach to the banner piece using foam adhesive. Use Extreme Adhesive Squares to attach the glittered “birds” letters to the bottom of the birdcage.

Thread 3 yards of Ivory Silk ribbon through the banner pieces and display! After the party, send the banner home with the guests of honor as a remembrance of their special day.
