Family Memories Album

Day 1 of May Arts / Petaloo Blog Week!

Family Memories Album

This is the second year in a row that my husband’s side of the family is getting together for a family reunion.  Last year, we all gathered together over the 4th of July weekend and had a grand time.

Since our 2011 family reunion is fast approaching, and the May Arts & Petaloo blog week was in the making, the timing was perfect for me to create a special photo album to hold all the photos that will be taken during the upcoming reunion.

The beautiful flower embellishments from Petaloo gave me all the inspiration I needed to create our Family Memories Album.

If you’re having a family reunion this summer, or just want to create a special album to store family photos, you’ll enjoy this project.

Supplies Needed:

  • Blank Photo Album
  • Studio G Ditto Labels
  • Studio Calico Sticky Fabric Strips
  • The Paper Studio Stickabilities Letters
  • Decorative Scrapbook Paper—lots of fun patterns and colors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Naturally the cover of my photo album needed to be an eye-catcher, so what better spot to showcase my beautiful May Arts ribbon.

On the left side of the album, I looped my wide satin ribbon (KK16) all the way around the cover and tied a pretty bow.  I added my lace cut out ribbon ( NQ22) and tied a second bow with it and finished off my cluster with a piece of the diamond stitch ribbon (332-07).

Next, I glued a piece of the lace ribbon along the bottom edge of the album and layered the diamond stitch ribbon on top of it.

Next, I decorated the inside front cover of my album.  I placed a piece of decorative scrapbook paper over the page, trimmed it with my narrow grosgrain ribbon ( 340-58), and added bands of my wide satin and diamond stitch ribbon along the right edge.

Small Petaloo paper flowers were added to the corners of the page and a large Flora Doodle flower was placed next to my quote.  I framed the quote with decorative chipboard pieces I painted a bold yellow.

The pages of my album were next.  I decorated several pages with ribbon and flowers, leaving space so that photos could be added later.

After my album pages were finished, I moved on to the inside back of my photo album.  I wanted to create a page where all the family members in attendance could be listed.

To do this, I created a log sheet on my computer, printed it out and secured the pages together by stitching the top edge on my sewing machine.

I then glued a piece of decorative paper to the inside back cover, glued my log sheets on top of that and added Petaloo decorative butterflies to the corners.

And finally, it was back to the front cover to add more pizzazz to it.

I glued Petaloo flowers in the upper corner and on the ribbon piece at the bottom of the cover.  The Flora Doodles flowers were great because of the different petal colors you can layer together, creating flowers with lots of dimension to them.  And, I love the glittered center pieces that come with the pack.

Petaloo mini roses were glued around the larger daisy flowers and small pieces of my diamond stitch ribbon were tucked amongst the flowers to finish it off.

I am really looking forward to the family reunion this year, creating new memories and sharing the Family Memories Album with everyone!

Thanks for joining me today!
