Fall Acorn Ornament

Fall is approaching…time to break out the fabulous textures and rustic color palette for decorating! May Arts has teamed up with Tombow for a week of amazing inspiration! Today I’ve got a quick tutorial showcasing the wonderful variety of textures available with May Arts Ribbon and the extreme adhesiveness of Tombow products-an beautiful, fall acorn ornament!

Gather only a few supplies!

~7 feet of the new May Arts Paper Cord in natural (420-10), ~2 feet of the nice, thick May Arts Burlap Cord in natural (SP10), Tombow Power Adhesive Tabs and Mono Multipurpose Glue, a Styrofoam egg and wired beads- that’s all!

To begin, glue the paper cord to the top of the wide part of the egg with an adhesive tab, and start wrapping the cord around the egg. Keep the cord taught to avoid any of the white Styrofoam to show through. After a few rounds, apply glue directly to the egg and continue wrapping with cord. Once the egg is 90% wrapped with the cord, apply five adhesive tabs in a circle to the bottom portion of the egg for extra durability. Finish covering the egg with the cord, and make a point at the bottom of the egg with the cord.

Following the same basic steps, create a topper for the acorn with the burlap cord. Punch a hole in the top of the acorn with an awl, apply a dab of glue, and push in wired beads for a decorative element.

If you want to turn your acorn into a ornament like I have, simply apply a looped length of cord to the acorn with a push pin.

May Arts Paper Cord is a perfect medium for wrapping elements tightly as it doesn’t have fibers to fray, nor does the glue muddy up the finished look. I can’t wait to create some Christmas decorations with the colorful cord and a styrofoam all! Tombow products are the perfect adhesive to use for this kind of project because of it’s durability and ease of use.

I’ll be including this ornament on a package wrapped with kraft paper and tied with a lovely bow for that extra special presentation, and will make a few more (without the hanging loop) to add to a decorative bowl for my fall table centerpiece.

This is such a great idea, and I didn't know that the Towbow adhesive was strong enough to do this, so I really learned something here. I am sure this will work with many types of projects and ornaments.  Thanks so much for the inspiration!

How cool! We'll be doing a "woodland" themed Christmas this year; this will be a perfect accent or ornament.
