Bracelets….again

Ribbon bracelets

A few weeks ago, I had so much fun making the ruffle bangle bracelets that I thought it would be fun to try to make some other types.  I came up with the following silk woven bracelets.
While working on these bracelets I fondly recalled -Once-Upon the 80’s- when I began my love of friendship bracelets.  I had a plastic box with compartments for all of my embroidery floss.  I would tape the strings to my leg or pin them to my jeans and braid or weave the colored strands into jewelry to give to friends or keep for myself.  (Sigh) I was good. And quick too! I could whip out a bracelet with all sorts of designs in no time at all.  I estimate that somewhere around 100,000 knots were tied with my fingers!

Fast forward to now.   I like to think of today’s project as a hipper-trendier version of the friendship bracelet.  It’s easy to make and quite relaxing, it just takes a little time.

Instructions:

  • Braid 3 pieces of the silk ribbon together into one braid

  • Once pinned in place,  sew the rope you have created round and round with matching thread.  (I tied the ends together in a knot and sewed the end pieces under the knot to secure.)

*Another idea is to braid your 3 braids together and then sew the braided piece into a band.  I added a flower and a button to this bracelet for a little extra flair!
