Blooming Twinkle Garland

Day 2 of May Arts / Tattered Angels Blog Week!

Blooming Twinkle Garland

Tattered Angels + May Arts Ribbon = gorgeous, shimmery blooms!  For this week’s blog swap, I decided to make a twinkle garland with lots of sparkle and shine using handmade ribbon flowers blinged up with Tattered Angels products.  Here’s what you need to create your own:

May Arts Taffeta/Iridescent/Wired Ribbon in Ivory {D09}

Tattered Angels:

Partridge in a Pear Tree {Limited Edition Glimmer Mist}

Blue Glimmer Mist

Wicked {Glimmer Glaze}

Blizzard {Glimmer Glam}and a paintbrush

Set of Twinkle Lights

Instructions:

I made 2 sizes of ribbon flowers. You will need 1 yard of ribbon for each large bloom and 18” of ribbon for each small bloom. I made 12 of each size. Tie a knot in the end of each ribbon and then pull one of the wires on the other end to gather the ribbon tightly. Tie the wire into a knot and leave a 3” tail of wire as shown.

Wrap the gathered ribbon around a pencil to form a flower. Using a pencil will create a center hole for inserting the blooms onto the garland light bulbs. Wrap the wire tail around the knot in back of the ribbon to secure it together.

Saturate the large blooms with blue glimmer mist, and then add a light spritz of the Partridge in a Pear Tree mist. For the small blooms, do the opposite. Add some green Wicked Glimmer Glaze to the center of each bloom. Use a paint brush to pick up glitter from the bottom of the Blizzard Glimmer Glam bottle and brush it all over each bloom.  Shake the bottles of glimmer and glaze frequently to get the best shimmer. The Glimmer Glam should not be shaken at all, so that the glitter stays on the bottom and is easier to load up on the paint brush. Set the blooms aside to dry.

Carefully insert one of the light bulbs through the center of each bloom. Try to keep the bulb from touching the ribbon and never leave the garland plugged in while unattended.

When you’ve added all the blooms it’s time to hang up your sparkly twinkle garland! I draped mine across the top of my ribbon cabinet, using a bit of masking tape to secure the center bloom.  The garland would look beautiful on a mantel or surrounding a window frame. Use it at a wedding reception for the dessert table, or as décor for a bridal shower or other party. Glimmer Mist is available in a wide variety of colors, so it would be easy to customize the flowers for any color palette or occasion. Many thanks to May Arts and Tattered Angels for sponsoring this tutorial! I have been browsing your site since finding the link to it on the Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps blog. I am now following by e-mail. You can imagine my excitement at finding that a certain ribbon (a string of puffy reindeer) was available at May Arts which I had all but given up ever locating. Last year, I was given a length of it by a friend and have used it sparingly because I wasn’t sure it could ever be replaced. I’m thrilled to have now found a source for it as well as many other wonderful products.

    I will never look at a plain piece of ribbon again and think, just a ribbon. You have changed my thinking. Amazing what you girls get up to.
    Sorry, gotta rush to try out your ideas…….
