DIY Father’s Day Journal

A friend sent me a link to a simple notebook that someone had started for their mother on Mother’s Day with the title, “No More Mother’s Day Cards!” At first, I was a bit taken aback. No more cards?! Where would that leave card makers like me? Then I had an idea! Why not do the same for Father’s Day? Why not create something that the special Dad in your life would have forever, a precious keepsake they could turn to anytime they wanted or needed a reminder of how special they are?

A Father's Day Journal

Perhaps your little ones can only scribble or draw a picture. How precious those little scribbles will be 10-20 years in the future!

All you need is a simple composition notebook, your favorite designer paper (I used Authentique’s Anchored…love!), and some awesome accents like this anchor from UmWow, and of course, a few special May Arts Ribbons! Make sure to cover the inside and back covers for a nice presentation. Tombow Mono Multi was used to secure the designer paper.

I love the iron metal look I was able to create with Memories Mists Blue Lagoon Spray and Rub on Metallic ink. That cool “chain” is actually May Arts Metallic Chain Cord Ribbon that I rubbed with Staz-on Blue Hawaii Solvent Ink to dull it a bit. Tsukineko Glaz-on was used to make sure the ribbon and anchor stay in place over the years.

Father's Day - Easy to make Bookmark

I created a simple bookmark for Dad to mark his favorite place with May Arts Natural Burlap Stripe Wired Ribbon. I just folded the end over a book ring and hot glued it down then folded the opposite end into a neat point and secured with more hot glue. An Authentique sticker finishes it off. The kids can do this with a little supervision with the glue gun. Of course, you could always choose to sew the ends if you prefer.

Why not start a journal for each child to give to Dad? I can guarantee this is one gift he will keep…forever.
