With a few simple elements you can create dreamy, rainbow-hued silk ribbon wands perfect for weddings, showers, parties, or just because they’re so fun and easy to make! Here’s quick tutorial to help you create your own.

Materials:

• {5} 24” lengths of May Arts 1.25” white silk ribbon

• Washi Tape {Happy Tape Natural Pack}

• Yasutomo Pearlescent Watercolors

• Paintbrush

• 1 wooden dowel {12” long}

• 2 Silver Thumbtacks

• 1 Rhinestone

Instructions:

Spread out a sheet of wax paper and secure each end of the silk ribbon to it with a piece of removable tape. Start layering on watercolors beginning with the darker colors and then adding lighter shades. For more intense color, use less water. You can go back over the ribbon with a wet paintbrush to soften and blend the colors, but don’t overwork it or the colors will become muddy. Just play and have fun, don’t think too hard!

Keep layering the watercolors until you have completely covered the ribbon. Hang the ribbon up to dry for a few minutes. I think mine was completely dry in about 30 minutes.

For a wrinkled effect, allow the ribbon to dry for a minute or two, then crumple into a ball and secure with a clip or rubber band. I created 3 pieces of scrunched ribbon for my wand. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes.

Use the Washi tape to secure one end of a piece of watercolor ribbon to the top of the wooden dowel. Continue wrapping the ribbon all the way to the bottom of the wand and secure with more Washi tape.

Layer 2 {24”} pieces of watercolor ribbons with 3 pieces of wrinkled ribbons. Wrap Washi tape around the bundle of ribbon leaving a couple of inches at the top. Secure the ribbon bundle to the dowel rod with more Washi tape. I added a silver tack to each end of the dowel, and for a bit of sparkle glued a rhinestone to the top.
