These charming vintage tin molds were originally used for baking or for molded desserts. I simply can’t resist taking them home with me, so I have a large collection of these petite beauties. A sprinkle of vintage glass glitter, a mini collage of papers, altered French prisms, and luxurious May Arts ribbon are the perfect elements to turn these treasures into a sparkly garland. Use the garland to adorn your mantle, doorway or window or hang it up for inspiration in your creative space!

Materials:

• May Arts Faux Linen Ribbon {368-15-33 Brown} – 2 yards

• May Arts 1.5” Sheer Dots {JD04 Turquoise/Brown Dots} – {4} 18 in. lengths

• Vintage diamond shaped tin molds

• Vintage glass glitter {silver and aqua}

• Background Paper {Aviary from 7 Gypsies}

• Stickers or ephemera {Cavallini Bird & Nest Stickers}

• Maya Roadchipboard letters {Noah Mini}

• Metal Clasps

• French Chandelier Prisms

• Glossy Accents

• Robin’s Egg Blue Cats Eye Pigment Ink

Instructions:

Create a template for the background paper by tracing around the bottom of a tin and cutting out the shape. Don’t worry about making it exact. The glitter will cover any imperfections. Glue a piece of background paper in each tin using glossy accents or glue stick. Add in stickers or other ephemera to create a collage. I used paper from 7 Gypsies and Cavallini stickers.

Run a line of glossy accents around the interior edges of the tin.

Sprinkle in a generous amount of silver vintage glass glitter.

Tip the excess glitter back into its storage container.

Colorize chipboard letters with Robin’s Egg Cat’s Eye pigment ink.

Cover the letters evenly with a thin coat of Glossy Accents and press into aqua vintage glass glitter. Shake off the excess glitter.

Use a bit of Glossy Accents to glue a letter in the center of each of the tins.

Use a Crop-A-Dile or other tool to punch a 1/8 inch hole in the top and bottom of each tin. Add a metal clasp to the top of each tin.

Tie a length of sheer dot ribbon in a bow on each clasp.

Thread the 2 yard length of brown faux linen ribbon through the back of the metal clasps to create a garland.

Cover the flat back portion of a clear French prism with Glossy Accents.

Center the prism over a collaged background and smooth out any bubbles.

Carefully tear off the excess paper. The paper will be a bit tattered, but that just adds to the vintage charm!

Attach the altered French prism to the bottom of each tin.

Tip:

My French prisms had a brass finish on the bowtie hangers. I wanted silver findings for this project, so I simply used a Krylon silver leafing pen to alter the finish. It goes on smoothly and dries very quickly.

French Prisms can be found at craft or antique stores, or ordered online at ebay.
