Valentine Décor

Hi! Welcome to May Arts blog today for a ‘sweet’ Valentine's décor tutorial. I love holidays and love to decorate. However, my house doesn’t have a lot of resting spots for decorations and I have 20 little fingers that like to touch if anything is in reach. So, I like to decorate my windows.  Each holiday/year I like to switch it up, but I like this one so much that I’m certain it will reappear!  Please follow along to see how you can make it too!

To start I cut an ’X’ out on my Cricut (you can free hand if you don’t have a means of die cutting), then I traced it onto a piece of Meranti (Meranti is available at the hardware store, a 4×8 sheet is only $10 and you can do so many things with it, plus it is actually wood so it paints like a charm). Then I cut them out with the jigsaw. If you aren’t comfortable using power tools the jigsaw is the tool for you, I got my hubby to put a scroll saw blade on it so I can do some curvy cuts. Large letters are often available at craft stores, but I couldn’t find any and these will cost about .10cents each!  Then I put a coat of paint on to match my ribbon color, and drilled two small holes in the top of each X.  (The glitter hearts used for the O were purchase from the dollar store).

I then wrapped the letters with PM17 wired Pom Poms, hot gluing at the beginning and end. Loop a stand of the Pink Striped Grosgrain through the holes. To put your “lovely” display in the windows you will need a tension rod (If you have curtains in your window you may be able to use the existing rod). Wrap your rod in the wired braided ribbon, this ribbon is great because you can scrunch it up to create a more full look or leave it stretched. Hang your X’s and O’s with a bow onto the rod and place in the window.

This is really gorgeous!  Thanks for the idea, can't wait to go see if they have these at the dollar store, I don't have wood working stuff or a Cricut cart for letters yet :)
