Make Your Own Thankful Tree

IMG 6893

With the holidays right around the corner here’s a fun home décor idea to get folks into the spirit of being thankful.

Start by going to your local craft store and purchasing a bundle of bendable-lighted tree branches.  I took two branches and taped them to a metal plate, securing them with electrical tape.  I wrapped May Arts Wired Burlap ribbon around the base to hide the electrical wiring and then covered the plate with a recycled burlap sack from my local coffee roasters.

I wanted to have a common theme for my thankful tags, so I started by die cutting out a half dozen tags from kraft card stock.  Once I had the tags cut I then used the same dies and cut out the same tags with the May Arts wired burlap ribbon.  I used varying sections of the ribbon, one I covered completely with the burlap and the others I cut sections of the die cut and places on the tags.  Mix it up and use as little or as much burlap ribbon as you want.

Next pick a few flower stamps, I used Hero Arts Poinsetta & Berries, Hero Arts Scalloped Flower and WPlus9 Woodgrain Silhouette, and ink them up in red ink and stamp them onto kraft, fussy cutting out the stamped images.  Or, for the HA Scallop Flower I stamped the flower twice, once on Echo Park For the Record paper and then again on kraft card stock, cut out and assemble.  I used Tim Holtz distress stain antique linen around all of the tags.  Use glossy accents and black rhinestones to accent the flowers.  Once you’ve got all your flowers stamped, inked and dried with the glossy accents it’s time to add them to the tags.

On a couple of the tags I added some May Arts silk to the burlap, to give some seams to the tags.  Adhere all ribbon to tag and add a second tag to the back to hide any extra ribbon or die cuts.  Die cut out some PTI double sided banners and select either stickers or sentiments for what you’re thankful for.  Add some May Arts Cord Burlap to the tags and tie to the thankful tree.
