Ring Bearer Pillow

Welcome back to the May Arts blog.  The winter doldrums are beginning to give way to the first signs of spring.   Spring and summer are traditional times for weddings.  We have two on the horizon in our family so my mind has been focused on some of the items that we could make to help cut costs.

I saw some beautiful ring bearer pillows online…beautiful, that is, until I saw how much they cost!  My first thought was, “I can do that!” and so can you!  You only need an hour, a few supplies, and a sewing machine and of course, some beautiful May Arts ribbon.

Supply List

  • 2 -8 inch squares black silk dupioni fabric
  • May Arts Taupe Silk Ribbon 1.25 inch & ¼ inch
  • Large silk flower (I got mine at JoAnn Fabrics for $3.25 with a 50% off coupon)
  • Button
  • Fiberfill
  • Sewing machine, thread
  • Hot glue gun

Pin and sew the 8 inch squares of dupioni fabric using a 5/8 inch seam.  Leave an opening for turning.  Backstitch at both ends of the opening to keep the stitches from coming loose.

Trim the seam to 1/4" inch and cut off the corners.   Turn the pillow right side out.  Stuff with fiberfill.  Make sure to use a good brand so that your pillow isn’t lumpy.  Hand stitch the opening closed.

Using the 1.25 inch May Arts taupe silk ribbon, wrap the pillow like a package, leaving the tails as long as you like.  Tie into a tight knot on the front side of the pillow.

Pull off and throw the flower stem away.  Take the rest of the flower apart and discard any plastic pieces that may be in between the layers.

Hot glue the flower layers back together.   Insert both ends of the ¼ inch May Arts taupe silk ribbon through the hole in the center of the flower leaving a loop on the back side.  Snip the loop in two and tie into a knot.

Flip the flower to the right side.  Tie the ribbon in a knot.  Hot glue a button in the center of the flower making sure both ends of the ribbon are on one side.  (This is where the wedding ring will be attached.)

Hot glue the leaves to the pillow, then glue the flower over the leaves.

That’s it.  A truly beautiful keepsake for that special day.

Fabulous!  What a beautiful keepsake the couple would have too.  It's funny how we crafters look at things and think "I can do that"  You did a beautiful job on this "can do" project.
