I scoured the clearance aisles the day after Christmas in search of the right Valentine’s Day item to alter with May Arts ribbon and Helmer Adhesives. Past holidays can bring found treasures for upcoming ones… I bypassed a bunch of glittery goodness and tacky showpieces to find a few little metal buckets for just pennies. I pictured in my mind how cute the bucket would look wrapped in some pretty May Arts ribbon and I also knew Helmer adhesive and metal were like peanut butter and jelly-it was meant to be!

Only a few supplies, great ribbon and adhesive and some food items are needed to create two unique Valentine’s gifts.
- 1 foot May Arts Caribbean Stripe Twill Ribbon (382-34-94)
- 1 foot May Arts Pom Poms Wired in White (PM01)
- 1 foot May Arts Natural Burlap String (SM10)
- Helmer Premium Craft Glue
- Tags
- Kraft Paper
- Ink and Stamps
- Felted Heart
- Scalloped Scissors

To decorate your pail, run a line of Premium Craft Glue around the perimeter of the pail and wrap your ribbon. This glue is the best because it is not heat activated and has a moderate drying time so you have time to fudge the lay of the ribbon if needed. Allow to dry just a bit, then run another line of Premium Craft Glue on top of the twill and adhere the wired white poms.

You’ll cover the area where the ribbons meet with a cute little envelope. You can purchase these premade or make your own with a trimmed down lunch bag, Helmer adhesive and decorative scissors. Embellish the envelope with a felted heart and string then adhere to the bucket.

Next, pull out some Valentine related stamps and stamp a tag, tie with burlap string. Here I used peanuts to fill the bucket because the tag says…

For the sweeter Valentine, fill your bucket with suckers and stamp your tag with a saying that goes something like this…

Experiment with different combinations of ribbons, fillings and sentiments, there are lot of cute sentiments available on Valentine related websites. You could try a vintage theme using this ribbon (FR10), fill it with sticks of Bubble Gum and tuck in a tag that says “I’m stuck on you.” Or, try using this ribbon (336-38-28), fill with orange slices and make a tag with the sentiment “No matter how you slice it, I love you.” I’m sure that your Valentine would even enjoy the same decorated bucket filled with different goodies and discover a different message each day during the Valentine’s week too!
