Homemade Gift Idea: Recycled Gift Boxes

Welcome back to the May Arts Blog!   I hope you’re enjoying these last few weeks of summer!

I don’t know about you but every time I go the grocery store, I end up bringing home one or two plastic containers filled with fruit or vegetables.  I always feel guilty throwing them away so I’ve been stashing them in my craft closet.  I decided to pull out a few boxes along with some May Arts Ribbons to see what I could come up with.

It will soon be time to begin thinking of small teacher gifts.  It’s always nice to surprise your child’s teacher with a small gift during the school year to let them know how much they’re appreciated.  May Arts Ribbon makes it easy to create gifts that won’t break the budget.

Many of my friends as well as my daughter-in-law are teachers so I have it on good authority that teachers can only use so many coffee mugs and apple themed gifts but they always appreciate food and these little containers are perfect for cookies, brownies, candy and all sorts of other homemade goodies.

The first container was designed with a female teacher in mind.  Two stacks of cookies in clear bags tied with May Arts gingham checked red and white ribbon fit neatly inside.

Supplies:

These containers have little slits around the bases and the top which are perfect for weaving ribbon through.  Even little fingers can help with  this part.  A piece of scotch tape over the end of the ribbons makes it easy for them to thread the ribbon in and out of the holes.

Once the ribbons are threaded, secure the corners and ribbon end (base) with strong double sided tape. All that’s left is to decorate and fill.!

We can’t forget the male teachers!  Thankfully, May Arts Ribbon has an awesome selection of cords and burlaps that are perfect for male themed gifts.

I filled this container with 2 cups of Alton Brown’s Homemade Granola.   You won’t believe how easy it is to make your own granola and how much better it tastes!
