Pocket Mood Board

A mood board is a creative and useful way to gather visual inspiration for design concepts and projects. A jumble of objects, pictures, and other elements that support a color scheme or theme can be organized into a pleasing montage that’s practically a work of art in itself!

I’m a bit obsessed with birds, eggs, and nest, so I decided to create a mood board that would feature these items, and provide a place to store all my bits and pieces until I’m ready to use them.

Here’s what you need to create your own mood board:

  • 12 x 12 Chipboard
  • 12 x 12 Patterned Paper
  • 3 lengths of 1.5 x 14 inch ribbon for the pockets
  • 18 inches ribbon for the hanger
  • Adhesive
  • Scor-Tape
  • Crop-A-Dile or other hole punch for chipboard
  • Embellishments for the ribbon (stickers, buttons, trims, etc.)

Instructions:

Cover a piece of 12 x 12 chipboard with glue. I used the compact Glue Glider Pro from Glue Arts, which made this task very quick and easy!

Cover the chipboard with your favorite patterned paper or create a collage with papers and ephemera from your stash. I chose Feather 12 x 12 paper from the new 7 Gypsies Conservatory collection.

Lay down a line of Scor-Tape about ½ in. from the bottom and wrap around to the back at least one inch on each side.

Attach a 14 inch piece of May Arts Faux Linen Ribbon to the Scor-Tape to create a pocket. Be sure to attach only the very bottom portion of the ribbon to the Scor-Tape. I selected 368-15-10 Natural to coordinate with my color scheme of soft browns, blues, and creams. Faux linen ribbon is the perfect choice for this project because it’s sturdy enough for the pockets and very easy to embellish. It also has a wonderful texture and comes in a variety of great colors!

To create the other two pockets simply measure 2 inches from the top of the previous ribbon pocket, mark and then attach to page with Scor-Tape as shown previously.

Embellish the pockets with stickers, old buttons, vintage trims or any of your favorite bits and baubles.

Punch a hole on either side of the top of the chipboard.

Thread the 18 inch faux linen ribbon through the back on each side and tie a knot on each side to secure.

Tuck in your favorite goodies for inspiration!
