Welcome back to the May Arts blog!  It’s time to celebrate another year gone and a New Year’s arrival and that means it’s party time!  Party poppers or crackers make great table favors and can be filled with just about anything you can think of.  They’re expensive to buy but so easy to make with just a few supplies and a bit of recycling as well.

I’ve got a simple tutorial for you.  Even the littlest kids can help make these fun treats.

 Gather your supplies:

Cut the toilet paper roll in half.  Place the cut ends together.  Do not tape together.  Measure your paper to fit around the tube leaving extra at the ends for tying.  Wrap the paper around your roll and tape shut.  Don’t place tape in the center where the two tubes meet so that the popper will be easier to open.  Tie one end with May Arts Metallic String.

Fill the tube through the open end with candy or other treats, and then tie securely with more Metallic String.  Cut a 2-2 1/2 inch strip of paper (mine was silver on the opposite side which was perfect!) Tape over the center making sure once again not to tape over where the two tubes meet.

Now, take your straight pin and make little holes around the tube where they meet in the middle.  This will make them easier to pop apart later.

Measure May Arts Metallic Velvet Ribbon to overlap the center of your tube.  Place a small dab of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive on each end and secure over the pin marks.

That’s it…quick, simple and easy thanks to beautiful May Arts Ribbon!  If you want to dress up your poppers for the New Year, you can add die cut numbers.
