I'm always looking for easy ways to make a big impact when I'm decorating for parties. I recently designed a chandelier for a New Year's Eve photo shoot and wanted to share the how-to with you. The supplies are all items that are readily available at your local craft store or online shop.

 

Gather your supplies:

• Piggy Bank Parties' Star Template {free download}
• 6 sheets of Metallic Silver Paper
• 17 yards of 1/4" White Sheer May Arts Ribbon (SC01)
• 1 yard of 1" White Satin May Arts Ribbon (KK-1-01)
• 1 yard of 1.5" Silver Pleated Satin May Arts Ribbon (379-15-31)
• 1 Embroidery Hoop
• Scissors
• Scoring Tool
• Adhesive Dots

 

 

1. Download the Star Template from here.

2. Print the template on the 6 sheets of silver paper.

3. Cut out the stars (18 large and 12 small).

4. Score the stars as shown in the diagram on the template and in the photo above using a scoring tool.

5. Fold the star points up and the non-points down (see photo).

 

 

6. Cut the sheer ribbon into 17 1-yard lengths. Set 1 length of ribbon to the side.

7. Remove the outer ring from the embroidery hoop.

8. Fold one length of ribbon in half to find the center. Attach to the inside of the interior ring with an adhesive dot.

 

 

9. Attach 3 additional lengths of ribbon as shown in the photo above.

 

 

10. Gather one end of each ribbon and tie in a knot. Make sure the ribbons are taut so the hoop hangs level.

 

 

11. Fold one ribbon length a third of the way down and attach halfway between two hanger ribbons.

 

 

12. Continue to attach the ribbons halfway between two ribbons (16 total). The ribbons should hang at different lengths so stagger where you attach the ribbon lengths to the hoop.

13. Reassemble the embroidery hoop.

 

 

14. Attach the white satin ribbon to the hoop interior to disguise the hoop. Trim excess ribbon.

 

 

15. Add adhesive dots to one end of the silver pleated satin ribbon (wrong side).

 

 

16. Fold over for a finished edge.

 

 

17. Attach to the exterior of the hoop with adhesive dots. Be sure that you do not cover the hoop closure.

18. Trim the ribbon leaving enough excess to repeat steps 15 and 16.

 

 

19. Tie the ribbon length you set aside to the hanger knot. This will allow you to hang it from the ceiling or a hook.

20. Temporarily hang the chandelier so you can easily attach the stars.

 

 

21. Add adhesive dots to ONE point of each star.

 

 

22. Attach one ribbon end to each star point.

 

 

23. Set aside 2 large stars. Attach the small and large stars any way you would like—in a pattern or random.

 

 

24. Attach the 2 large stars you set aside back-to-back to cover the hanger knot.

 

 

I created two chandeliers—one with a large hoop and one with a small hoop. The stars worked perfect for our New Year's Eve Party photo shoot but I have visions of butterflies for a spring party!
