New Digs

 

Welcome to the May Arts / Our Craft Lounge Blog Week.  We’ve had so much fun creating with the fun images  from Our Craft Lounge and combining them with our versatile and gorgeous May Arts Ribbons.

I had the opportunity to play with the fun set called New Digs and some really cool Sparkly Fluff (this would make awesome clouds, ladies!) 

 

 

 I love to take homemade cookies or bread to welcome someone to the neighborhood but we know that it’s the packaging that counts, right?

 

 

Who could resist this sweet little house complete with a textured shingle roof, gingerbread trim and flowers in the window boxes filled with homemade cookies?

I’m going to show you how I used May Arts Ribbon to construct my shingles on the roof.

 

Here’s your supply list for the house:

• May Arts Ribbon – Velvet Corduroy: 357-34-28, 357-34-16 (This ribbon is absolutely gorgeous!)

• Cotton Crochet Natural Ivory

• House template – Papertrey Ink

• Cardstock – Papertrey Ink Orange Zest, Green Leaf; Crate paper Carnival Collection; scrap white cardstock

• Stamps – Our Craft Lounge New Digs; Papertrey Ink Homemade

• Other – double sided tape, Martha Stewart border punch, cotton ball, foam tape, 2 small jewelry rings, pliers, Petaloo flower

 

Instructions:

1.     Print the template for the house and roof.  Assemble the base as directed in the instructions that come with the template.   Adhere the patterned paper to the sides of the house.  Embellish with stamps as desired. 

 

2.     Stamp the “grass” stamp in the NEW DIGS set onto scrap white cardstock.  Stamp again slightly above the first stamp.  Apply drops of glue to the grass tops to make flowers.  Apply Sparkly Fluff to the glue flowers.  Let dry.  Stamp the gate image from the New Digs set onto scrap cardstock.  Color if desired and cut out.  Glue flowers to the top of the gate.   Apply May Arts Cotton Crochet to the base of the house with double sided tape or glue dots.   Add the fence and flowers underneath the windows using foam tape.   Set the base aside.

 

3.     Cut out the house roof.  Embellish with patterned paper if desired.  Cut May Arts Velvet Corduroy into 2” lengths.  You will need approximately 28 pieces of each color.   Staple each piece together to form a loop.  Arrange in your desired pattern on each side of the roof.  Once you have an appealing pattern, attach the loops with strong glue dots or double sided tape.   I wanted mine slightly askew to simulate a clapboard roof.

 

 

4.      Assemble the rest of the roof following template directions.  Punch a 2 inch wide strip of designer paper with the Martha Stewart punch.   Cut and attach to the base of the roof line.  Attach May Arts Cotton Crochet above the punched layer.   Cut and punch cardstock to cover roof peak.  Attach with strong glue or tape.  Attach chimney, if desired.   Insert a bit of the cotton ball in the chimney.

 

 

5.     Stamp and color the sign image from NEW DIGS.  Cut out the sign adding about an inch to the bottom of the base post.  Cut off the lined portion of the sign.  Stamp the Home and Sweet images on scrap cardstock.  Cut to fit sign.  Stamp largest heart from NEW DIGS, color, cut out and attach to sign.  Use a small hole punch to make holes in the horizontal post.  Attach rings to the sign first and then to the post, closing with jewelry pliers. 

 

6.     Cut a piece of green cardstock slightly larger than house base.  Attach sign to base.

 

Now …  Fill your box with homemade cookies!

Isn’t this little house the sweetest?  I used Crystal Effects in the windows and more Sparkly Fluff for the flowers.   It really adds great dimension.
