I know everyone at one point has gone to the beach and collected sea shells and picked up some sand. I know I have! When I get home, my little souvenir gets shoved in a box somewhere or misplaced. So I came up with a cute little way to commemorate beach trips using May Arts Ribbon, our beach mementos, and things we probably already have at home. 

To make the shadow box, take a 7” by 9” piece cardboard and score an inch deep all around to create half of a box. Covered it with a white cardstock and set it to dry.

For the frame, take a piece of 7.5” by 9.5” cardboard and cut out a 4.5” by 6.5” hole right in the middle. I wrapped Cotton / Stripe 385-15-44 around the frame until it is completely covered. Seal it up with several coats of Modge Podge.

To make the centerpiece of the shadowbox, take  a 5” by 7” piece of cardboard and cover it up with paper. I used DCWV’s  Photo Real stack. They had a cute image of the sky that was perfect for the project. I took a yellow piece of scrap paper to make my sun. Make waves using ribbon. I used May Arts’ Silky Crush uk34. Then take a 2” by 7” paper, cover it with sand printed paper, again from DCWV. Modge Podge the sand printed paper and covered it with the actual sand. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the look and sprinkle seashells. Fill the small bottle with sand and glued it onto the beach scene. I wrote a little message on a scrap piece of paper, rolled it up, and placed it in my bottle. If you are making this to commemorate a trip, you can write the date and location of your trip on the little piece of paper. I also glued some of May Arts’ twisted burlap to the bottle cap to add a nautical look.
