If you haven't heard, May Arts & Helmar have teamed up for the September Craft Challenge! We will be providing 25 participants with a selection of these ribbons:
and 450 Quick Dry to create a craft project with! The Challenge? They have to color the ribbon. So, all week long a different Ribbonista will be creating an "Ink It!" Inspiration project. Today we have Prima Ribbonista, Christina Colón, with this fun Treasure Box!
If you are interested in participating, go ahead & email me!!
Good morning! Who doesn’t love getting all messy inking, painting, and misting? And even better, who doesn’t love inking, painting, and misting some ribbon?! I know I love getting ribbon and fibers that are white or off-white because it allows me to customize my color to whatever my little heart desires.
The ribbons and fibers for this project and challenge are no exception. I made this treasure box for my daughter. She loves bold and vibrant because she is bold and vibrant.
I used my acrylic paint, glimmer mists and Dylusions mists on pretty much everything. I went ahead and sprayed all of my ribbon pieces I wanted to use and set them aside to dry. To color the mesh ribbon, I used some acrylic paint and a sponge brush and painted it. As they dried I painted a base coat of gesso onto the box.
I started with a piece of Heidi Swapp Color Magic paper and misted it using Dylusions mist in “Lemon Zest”. Once it tried, I ran it through my Xyron and stuck it to my box. To add some pizazz to the corner, I busted out my trusty hot glue gun and glued some Tim Holtz corner pieces on top of the paper.
Once my inked ribbons had dried, I started putting together my embellishment cluster. I added some bling and just began to layer things in until I had a look that I liked. Of course, I always use my hot glue gun because it gives a strong hold and can be used on just about anything. I’m also impatient.
Stand back and admire!
I applied the mesh and mini pom-poms around the base of the box and to finish it off, I used some more of the Tim Holtz corner pieces. I actually put them on backwards so that it only gave a finishing touch kind of feel, rather than another decoration.
I can’t wait to give this to my daughter, though she’s already seen it. Thanks for stopping by!
Cheers!
