DIY Herbal Wedding Bouquet

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.

Remember me to one who lives there.

She once was a true love of mine.

If you clicked the link, you’re listening to the sweet sounds that inspired my post today.  One of my most favorite spots in the garden is my herb bed.  I love to go out and brush against the sweet smells of mint, basil and rosemary.

A few years ago, a friend gave us a gift of some wonderful homemade soup.  Tucked into the basket for decoration was a small bunch of herbs.  When I asked her what they were, she replied, “Simon & Garfunkel”.  😉

Intrigued, I looked up the meanings of each herb:  Rosemary is the herb for remembrance, Parsley –Festivity, Sage –Wisdom/Respect/Long Life and Thyme –Courage and Strength.  I decided those herbs would always be in my garden so that I could pass on the tradition to new neighbors and friends.

My project today could also be used as a beautifully fragrant wedding bouquet in place of expensive flowers.  In Victorian times, this was called a Tussie Mussie.

I simply cut a circle in a medium sized paper doily by folding the doily into fourths and cutting off the point.  To preserve herbs for a wedding bouquet, be sure to pick them early in the morning before they dry in the sun.  Plunge the stems in room temperature water and keep in a cool place until ready to prepare the bouquet.

When you’re ready to assemble your bouquet, wrap the stems with a rubber band, then wrap May Arts Wired Burlap around the stems.  I used hot glue to adhere the ribbon in place, then tied May Arts beautiful Faux Canvas with square knots around the burlap.  I love these bright colors against the greens of the bouquet.

I used Stampendous Herbs Clear Stamps to make a matching tag ring.

I think these would be a lovely remembrance for a bride’s wedding book.
