Hello, it’s me Latrice. Today I would like to share with you a simple idea that can get you great results. As a scrapbooker/crafter/ card maker/ and whatever else I do I am always searching for inspiration. It is seriously all around us all the time. It usually is something that jumps out at me at the most random time. Over on my personal blog Any Occasion, I have a feature that is called Inspire me Mondays. It focuses on one thing that has inspired me from the past week or weekend. I share a photo and then I create a project based off of that photo. This weeks “Inspire me” photo is this:

This is my purse! I found it in a little boutique for $20! What drew me to it were the layered leaves, funky colors, and the stitching. It was a unique purse, which is what I love in fashion. I immediately started thinking about how I could incorporate that type of leaf design into a fall layout. It came together so quickly that all I had to do was find the perfect leaves. Should I use stamped leaves, fabric leaves, hand draw them or what? And then it happened…I got the email from May Arts that said I was going to be a part of their blog Design team. As I searched through all the amazing ribbon choices I found this:

Meet faux suede leaves XL16, XL33, and XL32. You can find these three colors along with four other colors here.   I chose three colors to work with in earth tones. To create a similar look of the inspiration purse I cut the ribbon into individual leaves and layered them.

I knew that I was going to be sewing these onto my project so I didn’t use a thick adhesive. I used some repositionable adhesive to attach the leaves in a line. I overlapped each leaf a tiny bit and alternated the colors. Each row starts with a different color so that the colors don’t match up horizontally. Next I used my sewing machine to stitch in a coordinating color down the center of those leaves. You want to make sure you go in the direction of the overlap so that you don’t get bunching while sewing. I did four rows to create that inspiration type of style. Here is my layout.

I used all either 4×6’s or cropped 4×6’s. This makes the layout super-fast to put together and the stitching is all the detail you need. I hope that you too think outside of the box when it comes to embellishing your scrapbook layouts. You can be as creative as you want to be!
