Dimestore Vogue Card

Hi, it’s Gini, and you may have guessed…I really love anything vintage!  I, of course, jumped at the chance to play with some Vintage Street Market goodies! The sewing theme of the Dimestore Vogue collection really reminded me of my great-grandmother’s sewing room.   We would spend hours there together when I was a little girl, and I would sort through bags of buttons, patterns and fabric scraps.  My great-grandmother was very thrifty and always found a way to salvage everything.  If a pattern envelope ripped, she would “mend” it with tape.  As the tape aged through the years, it darkened into cool amber tones.  The coloration really reminds me of the VSM Tinted Tape – so that’s why I added the random bits of that to my card – in honor of my Memie.

May Arts Ribbons Used:

361-58-10 – 5/8” Crochet

372-15-33 – 1 ½” Crochet/Velvet Center

Other Supplies:

Designer Notes:

  1.  One of the papers in this collection is a blue metallic foil.  It seemed a little bright for this project, and needed to be grunged  up a bit.  Glue the foil to a piece of cardstock using 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and let it dry.  Emboss using the bark side of the M-Bossabilities folder, then sand the entire image.

  1.  Ink over the embossed image with a very juicy inkpand (Mix’d Media Inkz), so that the distressed areas  take the color.

  1. Remove the excess ink by wiping down the image with a paper towel. Use this panel as the base for the collaged elements of the card.

  1. Take several buttons and a buckle from the sheet of die cuts.  Coat the images with Crystal Lacquer and allow to dry completely.  Attach the buttons to the button card using dimensional Zapdots.  Tie a bit of crocheted ribbon through the “hang tag” on the button card.  Run 1 ½” velvet ribbon through the belt buckle.
  2. Arrange the collage elements on the card, add Tinted Tape accents.

This certainly brought back many fond memories from my childhood, and I hope it sparks some happy thoughts for you as well.

Oh my goodness, Gini…I thought those buttons were real!  Such a fabulous card, and I enjoyed reading about your memories.  I remember the dime stores in our small New England town.  Friday night shopping was always an adventure in these wonderful stores.  This card really evokes that era, and I just love it!
