An Autumn Themed Card

Today, we have a very special guest post for you!  Andrea Walford over at over at Paper Crafter's Library was kind enough to create this lovely card for us.  Now if you haven't heard of this fabulous site yet, here's a little bit about them:

The world of paper crafting is HUGE! Whether you are a beginner, or you’ve been creating for years, the sheer number of different products, tools, techniques and project ideas can be overwhelmingAfter spending 6 years helping thousands of paper crafters around the world become more successful in the creative space through her series of kits, digital tutorials and online classes, Andrea Walford began looking for a new approach to education. In 2011 she launched Paper Crafter’s Library – the first, and still to this day, only website that provides an all-in-one learning solution for paper crafters. With almost 800 videos currently in their library and 4-5 new videos added each week, Paper Crafter’s Library offers comprehensive training on products, tools, techniques, and project ideas. From beginner through to advanced, whether your interest is in stamping, card making, scrapbooking, creating 3D items or altered art – you’ll find all the resources you need to navigate the world of paper crafting in ONE place, organized and indexed so that it’s quick and easy to find.

And now for her project:

Every year at this time, when my kids are just days away from starting school, I find myself thinking less and less about summer and more and more about fall.  There is something about fall that is magical for me – the colors, the tastes, the textures…  As I was admiring my collection of May Arts Ribbons, trying to decide which of the gorgeous colors and patterns I wanted to use, I was drawn towards the yellows, oranges and reds because they remind me of fall.  Of course polka dots just happen to be one of my favorite patterns as well, which is why I ended up choosing the 5/8" Grosgrain/Dots (DD14, DD28 and DD57). From there, every other element for my card was chosen because they tied in with the fall theme.

With fall comes Thanksgiving, a time of year when we reflect on all that we are grateful for, which is why I chose a Thank You greeting. I let the colors of the ribbon set the tone for the card, creating a gradient of color in the background.  I chose complementary colors of ink to stamp my leaves and acorns, and a dry embossed wood grain pattern to give the feel of a tree.

You can see a full supply list below:

  • Stamps: Day of Gratitude, From My Heart (Stampin' Up!), Leaf Prints (Papertrey Ink)
  • Ink: Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, Summer Starfruit Classic inks, Soft Suede Stampin' Write Marker (Stampin' Up!)
  • Paper:  Kraft Card Stock, Java Card Stock (Bazzill)
  • Accessories: 5/8" Grosgrain/Dots Ribbon (DD14, DD28, DD57 – May Arts), 3D Foam Squares (Thermoweb), Big Shot (Sizzix), Woodgrain Embossing Folder (Stampin' Up!)

I hope this card inspires you to use your May Arts ribbons as inspiration for your projects.  Thank you to May Arts for inviting me as a guest blogger!
