. "After the holiday decorations are safely tucked away, I am always looking for ways to capture the magic that goes with them. I find adding little embellishments with ribbon helps give life to my weary winter home. Photos of a valance I created in my powder room using May Arts KC ribbon to cover the top of the blinds & also a soft bow & a paper rose with sheer ribbon tucked in a painted heart bird basket help bridge the gap between winter & spring. I also embellished inexpensive towels with a beautiful floral jacquard ribbon & coordinating fringe for a fresh look. My last photos are of a simple heart twig wreath that I added one of my papier mache heART creations to embellished with lace & double-face satin ribbon. A tea-stained heart doily & a crocheted heart by my mother-in-law adds a little nostalgia to my unique Valentine wreath."
. Yes. It is true. There is ribbon in the bathroom of my home. In my daughter’s room, of course, ribbon decorates her pillows and curtains. In the kitchen I have been known to tie a ribbon on a jar or add ribbon to a handmade recipe book. But in the bathroom? Yep, I even have ribbon in the loo. A sign that read “WASH” was the impetus to my artistic endeavor. Unable to find any paintings that matched the sign, yet able to find the perfect May Arts ribbon…I decided to create a little bathroom art. (And you can too!) .

.
. Art instructions:
Paint canvas with acrylic paint and gesso. Mix the colors and experiment.
Mod Podge decorative paper on top of canvas. Sand the edges.
Create dots by using texture paint with a writer tip.
For writing-use an artist pen that works on canvas, I used a Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen.
Lastly, adhere May Arts ribbon! I used Fabri-Tac adhesive.
. RIBBON USED: 342-15-46 BLUE/GREEN/LIME GREEN 1.5"X25y GROSGRAIN/HORIZONTAL STRIPES

Our first challenge entry is here! This card was sent to us by Merlyn Bost:
"I have completed the valentine challenge using the widest grosgrain ric-rac ribbon (ER22) in fuchsia and of course, the pearl wire/ ribbon (FY09). The card is 5x7. I glued the grosgrain ribbon horizontally across the face of the blank card. Using 2 fuchsia hearts cut from mat board, I attached the larger heart on top of the card and ribbon. The smaller heart I wrapped in the pearl wire/ribbon, then attached it atop the bottom heart. I am attracted to the dimensional aspect of the wired pearls and what girl doesn't have a soft spot in her heart for oodles of pearls? Happy Valentine's Day!" - Merlyn Bost

Ribbons and Valentines Day cards are the perfect combination. For the Valentine projects shown, I focused on using May Arts 347 series-Sheer Satin Stitch Center ribbons and XA Solid/Pom-Pom Edge Wired ribbons. These ribbons are essential for all your Valentine paper crafts. The 347 and XA ribbons are easy to work with, come in many beautiful colors and they are simply gorgeous. .

Our winner for this challenge is Merlyn Bost:
"It has been said that "Diamonds are a girl's best friend", but for me, it is PEARLS! I have found remarkable uses for the May Arts Pearl wire/ribbon. I have wrapped it around anything and everything from the neck of a decorative bottle to light fixtures, candlesticks, & gifted wine bottles. My favorite project over the holiday was wrapping curly willow branches with pearls. It was astounding! Will try to post photo."
Merlyn, congratulations! We loved your photo! So much, in fact, it became the inspiration for our next contest! So, for all of you who want to check out Merlyn’s work, click here & be sure to enter our next challenge!
There is something about a crafty handmade calendar that can brighten your day. The options I am going to show you are reproducible, inexpensive, and simple to make.
For one type of calender I went to Kwernerdesign.com and purchased a downloadable calendar template, printed the pages on white cardstock, embellished with May Arts ribbon, then displayed on a CD case.
.
.
.
.
Using white thread I sewed strips of ribbon to make a border. Ribbons used are solid/iridescent BS series.
.
.
.
One small piece of the sheer ribbon can really make a statement. QT sheer/butterflies/wired and TZ flowers/pearl center/wired.
.
For a masculine calendar I went with the brown and turquoise color scheme. I used a WK grosgrain stripe in turquoise and brown and TS solid stitched center in light brown.
. . Many free templates are available and I used one from Mycalendarmaker.com for the next project.
I printed the yearly calendar onto patterned cardstock, and trimmed the edges.
.
.
.
.
Then matted the calender on coordinating paper, added ribbon borders and a paper flower. Ribbons used: NPblack crochet, EX flower satin cutouts, QA black and champagne embroidery/satin.
